20 Essential Elements of a Marriage

Image
I think lists are awesome. How would I get anything done without a list? I’ve tried and I can tell you that although things still get done, it’s a whole lot harder. I forget stuff. I don’t do things in a timely manner. And worst of all, I end up feeling a lot more stressed than I would have if I had just used a darn list. I know when we think of a checklist, we tend to think of our jobs, grocery shopping, back-to-school lists, or just things we need to do in our day-to-day lives, but what about a checklist for our marriage? That’s right; what if there was a checklist to guide us through our union? We could use it to make sure we weren’t forgetting anything important, or to make sure we are on track and tending to the things that matter most. Listen, I know that having a successful marriage requires a lot more than a simple checklist. However, I also know that a solid checklist definitely never caused any harm, so ...

"I'm In Love!" This is the best way to find out!

Understanding the difference between love and infatuation... Do you remember the first time it happened? You caught one another’s eyes, and then you looked a second time. Something inside you wanted to glance a third time, followed quickly by a fourth lingering look. You didn’t want to stare, but something irresistibly drew you to that other person. When you were introduced, your palms were sweaty and you hoped no one noticed the increased perspiration under your arms. Your heart began to race as an exhilarating but unfamiliar feeling swept over you. You were suddenly afraid to say anything because you knew that if you opened your mouth, out would flow incomprehensible babble. The experience was exciting and terrifying at the same time. As the other person began to speak, you felt drawn like a magnet to a steel ingot. You didn’t know her or where she came from, but something about the way she looked and the aura that she projected triggered an unexp...

21 Questions to Ask before Marriage... By Pastor Bimbo Rosemary Odukoya

Learning how to live a maximized singlehood and to build a relationship that will culminate to a healthy marriage that is heaven on earth from a biblical practical approach. The Bible says that, “a man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22.  But we must understand that the finding is a process and it is a serious task. This process involves seeking and elimination. It takes time and energy. Ignorance of what this process involves is what makes many singles sad and discouraged or rush into mis-matched marriages. The truth is, finding just any type of life partner is easy; you can pick anyone off the street and go to the altar with him/her. But the heart-breaks and rejections from failed relationships are not easy at all. If you must find that one who would do you good, that one who is tailor- made by God to fit you, then you must invest time, ...

10 TYPES OF WOMAN U SHOULD NEVER THINK OF MARRYING!

Image
1. The Bitter Woman: You know that woman that always seems to be angry at the menfolk all the time? Perhaps she has had her heart broken one too many times, but this woman is always bashing on men and talking about how they are no-good or useless. A man might not want to settle down with someone so bitter as it is guaranteed that when the opportunity arises, she would hurl hurtful insults and intense, hateful words his way due to all her unresolved anger. 2. The Selfish Woman: If you want a happy home and a partner that wants your happiness as well as hers, then you should steer clear of the selfish woman. A woman who is determined to make sure she always comes first would not be able to build a cheerful and loving home with you. 3. The Materialistic Woman : A woman obsessed with material things would certainly not make the best wife. If all she cares about are material possession over family, faith and spiritual fulfillment, then she will not make the best partner. ...

Evaluating Your Spiritual Relationship Before Marriage

Your spiritual compatibility will influence the quality of your future marriage more than any other factor.  Note: Each year, thousands of pastors and counselors use. Preparing for Marriage as the foundation of their pre-marriage training for engaged couples. Preparing for Marriage was recently revised and updated, and the following excerpt addresses a subject that many couples do not adequately discuss before they are married. No other human relationship will play a more important role in shaping your life than your relationship with your spouse. And yet many pre-married couples make the crucial decisions about marriage when their minds are clouded with such powerful emotions that they find it difficult to think straight. They are so caught up in the whirlwind of romance that they fail to work out some crucial issues before they commit their lives to each other. For a Christian, the most important of these issues is spiritual compatibility...

The Proverbs 31 Woman

Image
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”   -Proverb 31:10, The Hebrew word for “rubies” (paniyn paniy ) in Proverb 31:10 includes costly pearls as well.  According to experts in London, pearls are now in some classes worth more value than diamonds. The Bible teaches in Proverb 31:10 that a virtuous woman is FAR MORE VALUABLE than rubies or pearls! She is worth more than diamonds! Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” The word “mammon” comes directly from the Greek word mammonas , meaning “wealth.” The Bible teaches that wealth and serving God are diametrically opposed to each other. You CANNOT serve them both! It is tragic that hordes of women these days are choosing pearls instead of...

Falling In Love Again With Your Spouse

...It is hard work, but someone must be willing to be the first to break the cycle if a relationship is to be restored... The movie that made Marilyn Monroe famous was  The Seven Year Itch . The idea was that about every seven years most married people begin to itch where they can’t scratch. They know something is wrong, but they don’t know what, let alone what to do about it. Often they have an affair around that time. Of all marital problems, that which I have confronted the most often in my pastoral counseling is, “I just don’t love her anymore.” While there is a vast difference between being “in love” and loving someone, we still crave to be in love. Couples have been coming to me with marital problems ever since my first pastorate. Ninety percent of them have been married from two to seven years, though some as long as 30. All had the same problem—lost love. What the Bible has to say After hearing this repeated literally hundreds of times in serious coun...
